Listening to:My Favorite Game, Cardigans
Thinking of:
All things sparkling, put to shame and behold the diamonds exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London. Starting July 8th and featuring more bling than most can handle save billionaires and the blue blooded. To know more... google it!
However you'd think in exhibitions and conventions would discuss the issues surrounding the object of exhibition in relation to prevalent times. Rocks shall remain rocks some say (oh, by the way... diamonds aren't forever, its a marketing phrase by De Beers, though lets not be hasty... keep those rings on fingers and wherever else those shiny stones may reside) but the commercial threat of synthetic diamonds is at large.
Most of us know that these stones are "geminated" (sorry, can't help that one) by the same thing what most of us use to write. Good ol' graphite... widely and cheaply available at your nearest stationary store. Instead of graphite being cooked in the urns of the earth with a volcanic slurry at astonishing temperatures and pressures in attempt to create a type yet shiny volcanic souffle, these synthetic variants are cultured in labs (Talk about the ugly duckling story... from graphite to diamond, beat that swans!!)
The synthetic diamonds aren't your Petaling Street (to non Malaysians, PS is where a heck of a lot of counterfeit stuff is sold, usually of low quality) variants but almost indistinguishable from the actual decorative (and engineering) jewel and have fooled many a gemologists.
I have to go out more...

Weekend in London, a summary...
Matisse, His Art and His Textiles: The Fabric of Dreams- An exhibition involving Henri Matisse and focused (surprise, surprise) on the fabric and textiles in his private collection and his mobile library. Mostly used in his still life and paintings on women, ranging from silks (gorgeous by the way), French, Moroccan, Javanese (surprise) and Cambodian (They let him have stuff from there???)
A pair of sandals
Four for dinner (Chinese)

Listening to:American Baby, Dave Matthews Band
Thinking of:
Illuminated only by the light of my monitor and the various LED and LCDs of the various switches keeping my room "alive", I feel alone... no wait, in a state of solitude. No sound but the music playing.
Flipping through pictures, wondering what characters were played out by people in photographs. A curious glance? A suspicious one?... really Mr. John Doe, what were you thinking when I pressed the shutter button? Did you hate me? Were you protective? Could you not care less?
Amongst the many cars that took to the Gumball 3000 rally
2* Porsche Carrera GTs
2* McLaren- Mercedes SLR
1* Mercedes CLK DTM
1* Jaguar E- Type
1* Aston Martin DB4
1* Spectre R42
1* Ferrari Enzo
1* Ferrari F40
1* Ferrari F550 LM General Lee
These cars make the plaethorea of Ferraris, Porsches, Bentleys and the rest of the automotive world look so freakin' common. The first 2 cars on the list are worth approximately 300k each, the CLK DTM another 200k and the next 2, absolute classics (E- Type, the finest sportscar built by Coventry), Aston (Bond, James Bond). I've got no clue about the Spectre, Enzo (another 300k car) and F40s are limited edition models and F550 LM, specially built to limited units.
In short, an insurance nightmare

Fairer Sweets
Listening to:Faith Like a Child, Jars of Clay
Thinking of:
The past couple of days unravelled 2 conversations, with 2 different people that brought about some thought or another.
The concept of the female of the species is regarded as the fairer sex apparently has more depth than the idea of being the more "attractive" halve. Of course, this alone can be debated and for the record, I agree that women are more attractive. In context, the discussion was based on an essay question with regards to "Women and terrorism" specifically in dealing with the Israel- Palestinian conflict (now this, I won't go into detail, loads of rotten apples there). The concept of attractiveness in this particular context is amazing in the barest sense of humanity. From women who kill themselves (strapped with bombs usually), as mothers and wives. On both sides of the wall, from the killers to the killed. Politics aside, is there a strange sort of twisted beauty in struggle? From empathy to her surroundings and "something" for the cause. One thing that both sides have is the need to do something for someone/ something they love. Of course, I'm not discounting the probability of being forced into doing something. Is there a common philosophy of life that flows in between both sides? Well, to be honest... I'm just throwing questions.
On the concept of philosophy and existentialism where a suffering individual must create meaning in an unknowable, chaotic, and seemingly empty universe is reduced to the concept of candy in one's palm. Introduced to the view of there being the todler and adult. Should all things in life be minimised and be represented by just a piece of candy, the reaction of both the todler and the adult should the candy be snatched away will be totally different. One will react with screaming and crying (the view being that the candy means a heck of a lot i.e the individual is taking an "all there is" view on the concept of existentialism) or as an adult, will shrug it off and would attempt to get another piece of candy in order to attain the same level of utility from the sweet (economists, correct me please) and based on the concept of existen... blah, blah, blah would move on to act on the emptiness of his space in order to once again, fill it with a lesser, equal or better situation and possibility.
The more I read the above, the less I understand.

Thinking of:
GUMBALL 3000, 2005
Oh please, someone grant yours truly vast ammounts of cash and a fast RELIABLE car soon...
Ok, doubt its gonna happen... but yeah, look at the venue lineup! Sicily, Rome, Vienna and Florence. Fast cars, fabled race and great places... dream come true.
"The race, made up of celebrities and exotic sports cars, lasts six days and - at often break neck speeds - winds through Belgium, Vienna, Budapest, Sicily, Rome and Florence, and ends at Monaco.
In fact, the finish - in fabled Casino Square - coincides with the traditional 'day off' (Friday) of the Monaco grand prix.
''Competitors will relax on the Gumball super yacht in Monaco's harbour,'' read a Budapest Sun newspaper report, ''... and watch the grand prix.'"

Listening to:As You Sleep, Something Corporate
Thinking of:
I've not played this Something Corporate CD in a while and I do like it loads... Ho Humm...
Emptiness fills the void of the constant work and activity that's been going over the past month or so. I'm waiting for news from my tutor with regards to meeting her for more *gasp* work.
However on the boring subject of work, its nice to know something you've been studying about is about to be launced into space. The NOAA-N weather satellite scheduled to join the constellation of objects surrounding our little blue planet in hope of transmitting weather data and SST readings. Running 6 channels of data of which 5 can be used at any time along with on board capability to assist in search and rescue missions. Armed also with an AVHRR sensor to monitor oceans.
Thats a $341million toy for the fellas National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Thinking of:
As a "programming" atheist, I should be excused from this...
(In reference to the fact I'm absolutely stumped and utterly hopeless with this piece of work... Oh God, won't you grant me infinite wisdom and knowledge. A cheque with my name on it, cashable tomorrow, with a billion dollars (USA, naturally) will be fantastic...)
"I'm not going to do my maths homework. Look at these unsolved problems. Here's a number in mortal combat with another. One of them is going to get subtracted. But why? What will be left of him? If I answered these, it would kill the suspense. It would resolve the conflict and turn intriguing possibilities into boring old facts."
"I never really thought about the literary possibilities of maths."
"I prefer to savour the mystery." Calvin and Hobbes
p.s: I think I'm quite fortunate to get away with this one... forgive, forgive... :P
Cheerio peeps for I'm off to write my programming grave.

Listening to:Blue in Green, Miles Davis
Thinking of:
I'm sure by taking a small step in the library, one could feel the intensity of stress, no thanks to the accumulation of a multitude of students from various streams packed into the cubicles and filling the tables with heaps of books ranging from literature to particle physics. Cest la vie come summer term.
It is only perhaps natural to find an outlet for this accumulated steam and I'm sure some do it in rather unortordoxed ways as compared to the rest of student civilization. Just having woken up from a short nap yours truly was on my way to a lab I was dreading (still barely coherent by the way). Perhaps it was the straw that broke the camels back, maybe the loose screw finally fell off but in a moment of madness, some student just burst out of the second floor doors screaming "Don't read the boar, its all rubbish" on and on. Needless to say the dreary library got a sudden jolt of life, though leaving a wake of befuddled faces (which did make me feel a lot better... nobody wants to look like a zombie in public alone) and perplexed looks. Apparently he bolted out of the library in an obstreperous manner and the stunned masses just blinked and all library activity was halted for that one moment.
That's the only highlight of the day. Oh, by the way... read the title back to front. Forgive me as I blend in with my chair for a bit.

She sat there in solitude on the pier, a bag of bread in one hand and the other, feeding the ducks.

Listening to: Piano Concerto No.1 in E minor- Romanze(Larghetto), Maurizio Pollini (F. Chopin)
Thinking of:
"Rip off the labels, and the dvds should play fine"
Upon doing so and feeling good about it, I was once again reminded without a doubt in mind the reason for not playing whatever stage performance I've done. ITS HORRENDOUS! The shrieking and the false Indian accent, the unnatural movements and I'm not even going to start on the patchy layers of body paint applied on my limbs.
Well be it any consolation, at least someone else will be able to watch the Malaysia Night DVDs. It all went bonkers because of the labels.
