Today we say goodbye to our housekeeper Hannah. It’s not a simple method of saying goodbye, good luck and all the best. For the best part of 13 months she’s been with us, we’ve gotten to know Hannah quite a bit.

When she first came, her comprehension and ours of each other was rather poor. I still don’t think it’s anywhere near good or perfect even to this day but at least it’s been steady progress.

Now, my room will be perpetually messy, instead of the crisp sheets nicely tucked in and the crisp shirts I do enjoy putting on in the morning in the closet. But yet, even when we have to do a little more to keep the little apartment clean, saying goodbye to Hannah heralds something else.

Saying goodbye to Hannah marks a period when change will accelerate, the period of time when the Chans will literally be at both corners of the globe. It’ll hasten a period of confusion, as if as it is, isn’t enough. Saying goodbye to Hannah would mean a dark apartment would greet travels to KL. At the back of my head, the question that rings in its hollow cavern is that it should not be any difference. Cest la vie…

Well, I’ll miss having Hannah around, much more than crisp sheets and nicely starched shirts (at the expense of holes in several t-shirts and marks on furniture) but on the other hand, I’ll miss having the rest of the Chans even more.
