“Somehow it lacks what do you call it… umm… je ne se quoi, why don’t you throw in some bright clothes, blonde hair and a goofy accent for effect”

It may appear in all forms or notion of appeal, an intangible quality of attraction. Its quantity may not be known hence je ne se quoi translated (in terrible French) to I know not what.

It may be simple; it may be beyond the realm of imagination…

There are those who prefer the darker state of things, of beautiful wrecks and elegant complexity. And as an alter ego, some prefer the lightness of character, exquisite simplicity and charming sophistication. But most commonly it lies on a scale with a taut line thin enough to slice through extreme sides of obstinate conviction.

As for yours truly, it’s a dubious borderline to say the least as to what is attractive and what isn’t. It doesn’t help that the line itself is a dynamic line never staying in one place at any one time. Perhaps, being beautiful without even knowing ranks high on reasons to be bewitched, once again… we go back to I know not what is the strict definition of beauty.

Writing this, I’ve wondered if this entry should be left hanging like an uncompleted train of thought. I did think if I should write so much that it becomes the longest thing I’ve written in ages. I suppose the answer to both questions turned out to be “no”

They say that sense of attractiveness is a mystery. Yet I remember in the one interesting year I had a vast amount of exposure to what is defined by sense of attractiveness and in my own mousey field, had to determine what this was based on sample data of friends bribed with chocolates to become lab rats, placed in an engineering sample group only to have their thoughts plundered on the comfort level of touch and perception measurement on a linear scale.

How about the social aspects of attractiveness? I like to think of it of a boyish conversation of “who’s hot and who’s not”. We never come to a clear consensus, but more often than not “there is something about her” sub conversation never fails to make an appearance.

Being an engineer and a former lab rat, how does one digitize this prospective perspective information and turn it into a market of which the customer doesn’t even know what he/ she/ it is buying into…

As for stage, it does have to yours truly an unknown quantity of attractiveness that draws without fail. I believe its called vanity…
