There's no denying it, there isn't gonna be a headline for it... The average American ass is getting bigger! If you're gonna start me on the "Whoa, there's something genetic about it argument", I'd say save yourself and stuff up that ample behind. It's an argument that's been spinning it's way from the Atlantic, to here and back again for as long as I can remember.

Lets face it, one too many Big Macs (see, always named after the market leader, don't see Burger King getting this much flak for it) will cause a swelling usually at the posterior towards a particular sufferer (the O word might be considered sensitive). In some parts of the world, say the more welfare states of the world (hint, hint) severe sufferers of this syndrome are in fact considered as disabled, have privillages such as prefered car parks, tax reductions, preference in home working (so they could stuff their mouths more often, more of the time) and even have an excuse... ahem! "reason" for claiming depression, which obviously will lead on to further implications and possibly the consumption of state welfare funds.

Now, some of us will call it a disease and some will say, I've got a problem with my XYZ gland. Fair enough, call it your way... but for the rest of the population where Big Macs are consumed for breakfast, lunch and dinner... WTF?!

In the UK,
1. 17% of men and 21% of women are obese (not overweight, thats a different statistic) (a body mass index of more than 30 kg/m2)
2. About 28% of men and 27% of women aged 16-24 are overweight or obese but 76% of men and 68% of women aged 55-64 are overweight or obese.

Generally speaking, 6 out of 10 people across the Atlantic are overweight or obese

I'm pretty damn sure that there aren't that many people with a gland problem running around the globe.

Am I trying to incite the notion that thin is beautiful? On the contrary... I personally enjoy the human form as it is, not some rib showing, vertebrae exposed prima donna who starves to attain her fortune. Yes, some say big is beautiful but I'd say it'll be pretty sexy being hooked up to a machine to help you breathe just because there's too much fat in between the muscles and having too much weight on the heart. Strange, the latter bears a resemblance to the condition of whales dying due to beaching. Get a hint!

Well, of course the industry isn't really fussed about whatever I say... keeping with the statistics of the growing population being fat, they've responded by well... increasing the chair sizes on cars, busses, trains and planes (though, I've got reason to suspect that the latter is rather due to changing aircraft specs and competition for the 2 upper classes available besides the good ol' cattle class most of us have to be content with)

"The front seats of Honda’s 2006 Civic are ¾in wider than the previous year’s model. Subaru’s new B9 Tribeca, designed for the American market, offers front-seat passengers an extra ½in over other models in the line. Mercedes Benz’s R-Class Grand Sports Tourer gives front-seat riders an inch of extra girth over its M-Class."

"
The changes are being forced on the car makers by the much-heralded “obesity epidemic” in America, where almost one in four adults is clinically obese and almost two thirds are overweight. One study found that the average large man got 27lbs heavier and almost 1½in wider between 1962 and 2000"

Of course, there are activists for the obese kind... Those who'd like to be kind to the generous sized and fight for their rights with passion. "DO this or I'll sit on you!"

They're not happy with the claims of American manufacturers making their chairs larger for the derrier, foreign automobile designers taking into account all of girth and bus companies who are generously increasing the seat size (and reinforcing them) to take the extra weight and size.

"
They make bigger cars as a selling point. I would love to see bigger seats and smaller cars so people have better choices... Bigger cars use more fuel, but bigger seats don’t"

I'd love to see Mr. Chunky in a Smart Car!

Of course, there are those who are content on fueling the obese attitude who provide comforts, but what the heck... I'm Chinese, if there's money to be made... why the hell not.
